Why 35mm film is so worth it on your wedding day

One of my favorite things after a wedding day is getting scans back from the rolls of 35mm film I shot throughout the celebration. There is something incredibly special about film photography that feels different than digital photography.

Every frame on a roll of film is unique. Unlike digital photography, where hundreds of images can be captured in a matter of minutes, film is more intentional. Each click of the shutter matters. This makes every image one-of-a-kind.

Film naturally brings an artistic, whimsical, and romantic quality to wedding photos. The colors are rich, soft, and the subtle grain adds a texture that feels timeless. There is an organic quality to film that is difficult to replicate. It doesn’t just document what your wedding day looked like, it captures what it felt like.

Film has always held a special place in my heart because it was actually how I learned photography. Before I ever picked up a digital camera, I learned how to take photos on film. Learning photography this way taught me to slow down, pay attention to light, and carefully consider every frame I created. That appreciation has stayed with me throughout my career, and it’s one of the reasons I still love incorporating film into wedding days whenever I can.

I also think film is simply fun. There is something exciting about knowing that a portion of your wedding gallery was created using a completely different medium. As you scroll through your final collection, the film images stand out in the best way. They add variety, depth, and a sense of nostalgia that complements your digital photographs beautifully.

If you are interested in adding film photography to your wedding day, I’d love to tell you more about it! Mention it when you fill out my inquiry form, and I’ll share details about my film coverage package.
